"To state Representative/state Senator ______________:
Although the 2008 Georgia General Assembly will not be considering the comprehensive revision of the Georgia Trust Code that had been tentatively scheduled for the this year's session, I request that the provision for Trusts for Animals (§ 53-12-18 of the proposal by the Fiduciary Section of the State Bar of Georgia) be presented and passed as a stand-alone bill.
This law would give Georgians the right to create and fund a legally valid trust for the benefit of an animal(s) alive at the time of that person’s death. Georgia is the only state in the Southeast without such a law, and a large majority of states in the country (38 states plus the District of Columbia) have Trusts for Animals laws in effect. It does not reflect well on Georgia to be the only Southeastern state without such a law, but this situation can be corrected.
Do not delay on passing a Georgia Trusts for Animals statute. If the proposed Trust Code revisions are not approved, please take the necessary steps to make a stand-alone Trusts for Animals law a reality in Georgia.
Respectfully,
YOUR NAME HERE."
